Creativity and Genre

 Creativity naturally flows through all of us. New ideas. New plans: why is being creative so important? Creativity is an important factor in all forms of media so we can create new things, new ideas, and new memories. One main issue is many people have trouble being creative, especially when they are involved in something new. Here are some ways that being creative is important and way that can help you to be more creative. 

 

One thing that can help creativity flow is breaking the awkwardness of the situation you’re involved in. One thing that you can do as a group to try and break down that wall is trying to introduce yourself in a new and exciting way. For example, introducing yourself through your bucket list or by what kind of shoes you love. These ways of introduction based on personal experience really let you know a lot more about a person than the generic ‘Hello my name is blah blah. I am blank years old.’ This new way is stimulating to the brain and makes everyone in the group more comfortable with one another.  

 

 People seem to be so afraid to make mistakes and this limits the flow of creativity. Something said in the Ted Talk the Theory of Creativity by Duncan Wardle, is the best way to get creative ideas is to invite someone who isn't specialized in that subject and let them create something totally new. Why he believes this works is because these people aren’t confined by the walls of being afraid of failure since they have no clue what they’re doing. Once someone in the group lets their creativity flow, it starts a cycle. Soon enough everyone is no longer afraid and is doing great work with one another.  

 

Without creative thinking, people could miss out on what Ron Beghetto calls a beautiful risk. According to Subtle Nuances of Creativity in Learning and Life “Beautiful risks are different because they involve doing something that may not work out but have the potential to make a contribution to the learning and lives of others. Creative expression in educational settings can often be a beautiful risk because sharing creative insights, ideas, and work not only stands to benefit oneself, but also has the potential to benefit others. A student who comes up with and shares a unique way of thinking about a difficult science concept can contribute to the learning of peers and the teacher. A teacher who decides to design a different activity to engage students in a lesson that previous students have found terribly boring is also taking a beautiful risk.” Beautiful risks result in beautiful outcomes. Making learning fun. Finding new ways to perform tasks. Making work that could be tedious enjoyable; these are all ways to make our lives beautiful and it would be a shame to miss out on that simply because we are afraid to make changes and do things that are out of the ordinary.  

 

Thinking creatively is definitely important for everyday life. Although people have trouble being creative, there are many ways to overcome this issue. Are you afraid of failure? Are you afraid of making risks? Are you afraid of looking like a fool? Here’s the best part; so is everyone else. Try to invite new people into groups to help creativity flow. Introduce yourself in a new way to break the tension. Lastly don’t be afraid to make risks, because you could miss out on creating something truly new and beautiful.
